Understanding 'Squiggly Journeys' for Trans+ Awareness Week

This final chapter of my journey is a reflection on the lessons I’ve learned through each transition and the importance of allyship beyond Trans Awareness Week. I hope that by sharing my story, I’ve sparked something meaningful for you as well.

“Each of these transitions—the moves across countries, the changes in faith, my gender journey, and my return to the UK—has shaped me in ways I couldn’t have predicted. My path has been far from straight; it’s been a ‘squiggly’ path, with loops, turns, and twists that have each added a layer to who I am.

But that’s the beauty of life: our paths aren’t meant to be linear. Each twist and turn teaches us something new, shapes our understanding, and enriches our sense of belonging. We all walk our own unique, winding paths, and that’s what makes our stories so powerful.

Trans Awareness Week is more than a reminder of the past; it’s a call to action in the present. Trans+ issues are human issues, and the support we extend today builds a foundation for a more inclusive future for all. This week, as we reflect on our own journeys, let’s also remember the importance of allyship that’s rooted in action—recognising, celebrating, hiring, and investing in trans+ voices, not just this week, but every day.
